The Hawks organization originally started nearly 20 years ago after 17 year old Donald Campbell (family member to all involved in Hawks Organization) met an untimely fate due to gun violence. He was murdered on his birthday and his life was taken by a teen even younger than he.
The year Donald transcended was a year when DC Public Schools did not open to students at its normal time of the year. Realizing that life does not begin or end during school hours and that the youth of the inner city simply needed guidance, opportunity and healthy competition to channel their aggression Barbara Lucas her Father Edward Campbell and associates decided to give back to the community the best way they knew how, which was thru basketball.
After a bit of a hiatus Edward Campbell passed. This reignited the burning desire to give back to the community to honor his legacy.
